1991 FENDER F210LH (LEFT-HANDED) ACOUSTIC GUITAR

Here’s a very nice left-handed example of Fender’s F210 Acoustic guitar. The F-series range was first introduced in the 1970’s to compete with Japanese makers such as Yamaha and Takamine. This ‘dreadnought’ features a fine-grain book-matched spruce top. The back and sides are of a dark reddish mahogany with a tasteful decorative centre seam. The nut and saddle are both made of bone. Build quality is excellent, and the whole guitar has that look of quality you would expect from Fender. As a 28 year-old instrument made in Korea (not China!), it represents excellent value, especially as the wood was better quality back then compared to what is available for mid-range mass-produced guitars these days.
I bought it new in 1992 for £185 (that’s about £400 today) with no case … just a cardboard box. In spite of the modest cost, I was so impressed with this guitar that I soon got hold of a decent padded hard-shell case for it. It’s never been gigged, as I only bought it for playing at home and teaching. In spite of a lot of use, this guitar looks like new. Apart from a few tiny blemishes (that I searched hard to find), the finish is immaculate. The neck is perfect, and the rosewood fingerboard shows no wear at all. And the machine heads still look and work like new. In fact, the only signs of this guitar’s many years of service are a bit of wear on the first few frets and a small chip out of the bass edge of the nut, neither of which have any effect on playability or tone.
As for sound, this guitar can be anything you want … it really depends on which strings are used. For many years I strung it with electric strings to practise lead guitar. But more recently I’ve gone over to light-gauge phosphor bronze to get that warm acoustic sound more suitable for finger-style and flat-picking stuff. Whatever I play on it, whether quiet or loud, always sounds warm and smooth, with plenty of ring and sustain. During my many years of teaching it has been the most used of all my guitars. Its only short-coming is its size ….. which is why I’ve decided to sell it. I recently suffered an injury to my left shoulder which makes this guitar uncomfortable to play sitting down. But, if you’re a leftie looking for a decent dreadnought, this guitar is an ideal choice in excellent condition, and great value for money. My loss will be your gain. Cash on collection would be preferred, but I would arrange shipping at cost price if need be.
