A real vintage beauty with looks and a sound that just screams "rock'n'roll"!
This is one of the amps I'm selling on behalf on my pal Dave "Werewolf" Richardson, who now lives overseas. Dave tells me he bought this amp from the late-lamented Holiday Music in Leytonstone in the 90s. He gigged it for a while with well-known London circuit cajun/roots/blues band the Poorboys, before confining it to studio use.
Aside from the cigarette burns on the top of the head (down to a careless previous owner) and the inevitable knocks, scuffs and stains, this set is in great physical and electronic condition. The tilt-back legs on the cab and the piggyback clamps work just fine. The knurled screws on the cab are a tiny bit bent out of true, but still hold the head in place without any problem.
It was retubed and serviced (including a new tremolo sensor) a couple of years ago by Essex Amp Repairs, at which point the hardwired power cable was replaced with a modern Euro socket, very tidily fitted to the centre of the cab back panel.
At the time, Dave Bailey at Essex Amp rated it one of the best amps he had ever heard. When I ran it up the other day, I had to concur - it sounds GREAT - especially when twinned with the 63 Tube reverb unit I'm also selling for Dave (see other listing). In fact, if you're interested in entering Surf Heaven, we'd be open to offers on the pair!
Amps this old, in this condition and sounding as good as this are hard to come by these days, as collectors are snapping them up. Blonde Tolex Fender amps from the early 60s amps change hands for £3,000-odd in mind condition. The Tremolux was the smallest of the Fender piggybacks and is reasonably portable, putting out a very useable 30-40 watts.
This is a player's amp, "road-worn" and great to gig and record with (or just to make your lounge look unbelievably cool!) so is priced accordingly at just £2,300 ono. Make us an offer!
